2026 WIL Key Dates & Courses

Applications for internship and clinic placements must be made during the application periods though InPlace. Log-in to InPlace with your UNSW log-in credentials.

Internships are to be unpaid. For any exemptions to this, please contact the Director WIL at law.wil@unsw.edu.au

Late applications cannot be accepted for any WIL courses.

Application resources

The application process for internships is the same as a job application, and it is a competitive process where our host organisations will select the best applicants. We highly recommend you review the Law & Justice Career Resources specifically designed for both Law and Criminology students and UNSW Employability for resources to enhance your application and ensure the best chance of success with your application.

Important information for International Students

Please be aware that as Law & Justice WIL courses are an elective course, and not an essential requirement to complete your degree, the hours of an unpaid internship will contribute towards the number of hours your visa allows you to work per fortnight. For further details please check visa details and conditions.

Pre-placement tasks

All internships and clinics have pre-placement tasks you must complete after you have accepted an offer or had a self-organised internship approved.

The three WIL Preparatory Modules on gendered violence, WHS and risks and hazards need to be completed prior to the commencement of your placement.

You can access the training by self-enrolling with Student key: WILModules (note you will either enrol as a new or returning student). Once completed in Moodle, it can take up to 2 days until they show up as 'completed' in InPlace.

Insurance

Please refer to the UNSW Insurance website for further information on insurance for students while participating in a UNSW approved activity (this includes clinics and internships) and travel insurance for students while participating in a UNSW approved activity.

Information to provide your host organisation

Please provide your supervisor with links to the UNSW Law Internship Supervisor Manual and the organisation student evaluation form.

Working from home

If your placement involves working from home, please ensure you complete the work from home checklist prior to commencing a placement; and record your start and finish time each day to be covered by insurance when working from home.
