The Australian Consortium for 'In-Country' Indonesian Studies (ACICIS) is a non-profit consortium of universities that develops and coordinates high quality, in-country study options in Indonesia. The Law Professional Practicum placement offers Australian students the opportunity to collaborate with Indonesian peers and legal practitioners to gain experience within the legal profession, and to develop their professional skills, while building their networks within the Indonesian legal fraternity. 


This program provides students with a unique opportunity to gain professional experience and establish networks in Indonesia. Students will undertake online Indonesian language and cultural classes, and seminars about Indonesia’s legal industry. Students will complete a virtual professional placement (160-hour internship) with an Indonesian or international firm (or with an individual practitioner) operating in Indonesia. No background in Indonesian language is required to participate in this program. You may be eligible to receive a $4,000 New Colombo Plan Mobility GrantClick here to see if you meet the eligibility criteria.  Your eligibility will be assessed by ACICIS upon application.

 

 

Eligibility  

To be eligibile to gain credit towards your program you must have: Competed 72UOC of JURD courses if you are a Juris Doctor student or 78UOC of LAWS courses of you are an LLB student and have a WAM of 65 or above.
Criminology students are not eligible for the ACICIS LPP.

PLEASE NOTE: Often ACICIS programs overlap with UNSW terms. Please check the dates, the delivery and the attendace required to avoid clashes. As it is an external program you will be responsible for managing your enrolment in your UNSW coursework and the ACICIS program.
 

Tuition fees
Students will need to pay the tuition fees for the program upfront to ACICIS. If eligibile the New Colombo Grant will cover a significant portion of the fees.

Application process

Step 1: Start your application to ACICIS and also:

  1. Complete the Exchange Moodle Tutorial.
  2. Apply to undertake cross-institutional study via the UNSW  Student webform. Your application will be assessed to determine if you are eligible to undertake cross-institutional study and receive transfer credit upon its completion. UNSW Law Student Serviceswill issue your cross-institutional study outcome letter, which will also be provided to ACICIS for their records.
  3. Send your cross-institutional letter of approval to advisor4globaled@unsw.edu.au

 
If you do not receive cross institutional study approval from UNSW you will not receive credit for the course and ACICIS will not proceed with your application
 
Step 2: ACICIS Application Process

  1. Complete the ACICIS program online application
  2. You will be asked by ACICIS to have the University Approval form signed. Please send it to advisor4globaled@unsw.edu.au
  3. Submit the full application to ACICIS by the deadline.
  4. ACICIS will notify students of acceptance approximately one month after the application closing date. Acceptance will be conditional until ACICIS receives a letter of approval for cross-institutional study from student services.

 
Step 3: Before Departure complete all pre-placement and pre-departure tasks

  1. Complete the 3 WIL pre-placement modules available at https://moodle.telt.unsw.edu.au/enrol/index.php?id=66296 the student enrolment key is 'WILModules'
  2. Go to How to prepare for departure – In person learning abroad https://www.student.unsw.edu.au/global-departure and complete the requirements in the predeparture tutorial.
  3. Attend an informal pre-departure event held by ACICIS in Sydney. These events are non-compulsory, and a copy of the information presented will be made available to all participants.
  4. Travel insurance: Students who participate in outbound international programs may be covered by the UNSW Travel Insurance Policy.If you are unsure of whether you are covered by the UNSW Travel Insurance Policy, please contact the UNSW Study Abroad and Exchange Office.

Results

After you have returned from the LPP, you will be sent a copy of your original transcript of completion, as well as qualitative outcome reports. These documents will be sent by email to you, and the relevant UNSW staff members in order to assess if you have satisfactorily met the ACICIS course requirements such that you can receive a credit transfer. UNSW Law Student Services will process your credit transfer upon receipt of your original transcript of completion and qualitative outcomes reports. OS-HELP loan application

Once you have been accepted on to an ACICIS program, you may submit an OS-HELP loan application for consideration by UNSW Australia and the Department of Education.
Students can pick up an OS-HELP application form from UNSW Student Central or the Study Abroad & Exchange Office. You can find more information about the loan here.
